A late Billy Mehmet header saw Perth Glory gain some measure of revenge for last season's A-League Grand Final defeat to Brisbane Roar with a 1-0 win at Paterson's Stadium. The late substitute was the difference as he headed home a Scott Jamieson cross in the 89th minute. Adelaide United began their A-League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium. Dario Vidosic gave the visitors a second-minute lead before home goalkeeper Mark Birighitti saw red early in the second half.
