EU\'s Barroso urges Romania to respect independence of judges

European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso pressed Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Friday to respect the independence of the judiciary, citing alleged \"intimidation.\" Re-opening a fierce row over the political independence of judges, Barroso used a letter to Ponta released to media \"to express the European Commission\'s concerns about the allegations of pressure and intimidation of judges of the Constitutional Court which have been brought to our attention.\"
