Abu Dhabi - AFP

Emmanuel Adebayor hopes Tottenham Hotspur\'s win over Swansea City will spark a charge that sees Spurs win the FA Cup and make sure of a place in next season\'s Champions League. The Togo striker, on loan from Premier League rivals Manchester City, scored two late goals in a 3-1 win over Swansea at White Hart Lane to cement Spurs\' hold on the fourth and final Champions League place on offer to English clubs. Previous defeats by Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal had left Tottenham in danger of dropping out of the top four but they are now level on points with third-placed north London rivals Arsenal and five points clear of Chelsea and Newcastle United with seven games left. Tottenham also have an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley a week on Sunday and Adebayor is looking forward to the climax of the season. \"For me, my target before coming to join Tottenham was to get into the top four and we are in a good position to do that now,\" the 28-year-old told Spurs TV Online. \"We are in the FA Cup semi-final as well. We just have to give it a go, try to give everything and finish in the top four, and why not win the FA Cup as well?\" Spurs\' bad run of league results started in February as the 12-point lead they had over Arsenal disappeared quickly, with some pundits predicting the blip would become an all too familiar tailspin for Tottenham fans. Swansea\'s equaliser last weekend would have had the White Hart Lane faithful fearing the worst and Adebayor said: \"When Swansea pulled it back to 1-1 it was quite difficult, but in the head we have a good squad, we have belief. \"We knew in our heads that we could change it around. We showed character and personality by winning right at the end. \"Now we have closed the gap on Arsenal and have maintained a gap over Chelsea and Newcastle. \"It was very important for everyone, for the players and the fans, and hopefully now we will go on a good run until the end of the season.\" Tottenham have yet to come to an agreement with City over making Adebayor\'s move permanent, although it is understood the player himself would like to stay in London. Rafael van der Vaart urged Tottenham to seal a deal for the former Arsenal striker after the Swansea match and Spurs team-mate Younes Kaboul said on Tuesday: \"I\'m happy for Emmanuel. He scored twice and a striker always needs to score goals to be confident. \"He\'s been in good form and he scored two magnificent goals. That\'s the Emmanuel we all know. He worked hard, pressed the defenders well -- he\'s been fantastic.\"
