Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq won the toss and sent Sri Lanka in to bat in overcast conditions in the first one-day international in Hambantota on Saturday.
The tourists were without their top spinner Saeed Ajmal, who has flown to Australia to undergo tests of his bowling action after being reported by the umpires during the preceding Test series.
Sri Lanka swept the series 2-0 in a fairy-tale farewell for former captain Mahela Jayawardene, who retired from Test cricket to concentrate on one-dayers till next year's World Cup.
