New York Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham made one of the most spectacular catches in NFL history Sunday night in a losing cause against the Dallas Cowboys.
Beckham's one-handed touchdown grab while leaping backward at the goal line raised eyebrows in the second quarter but the Giants would eventually lose their sixth game in a row, falling to Dallas 31-28.
"It means nothing without a win," Beckham said after the defeat.
The astonishing play saw Eli Manning hurl a 43-yard pass to Beckham along the right sideline just a stride outside the front corner of the end zone. He eluded Cowboys defender Brandon Carr and leaped into the air to try and bring down the ball.
Beckham tossed himself backwards, stretched out his right hand and using only three fingers brought the ball into his control and down to his chest while twisting his body so he landed in the end zone to complete the catch and score the touchdown.
"I've seen him make one-handed catches like that all the time, but none like that," said Giants coach Tom Coughlin.
"Pretty spectacular," added Manning.
Beckham, who works on the one-handed receptions during practice, credited Manning with making the superb grab possible.
"Perfect spiral," Beckham said. "The ball placement makes it as lot easier to do something like that."
Beckham, who made a two-handed catch against San Francisco earlier this season, falling backwards while tapping the ball to keep it within reach, said that he has more jaw-dropping receptions where that one came from.
"I hope it's not the greatest catch of all time," Beckham said. "I hope I can make more."
