Torrential rain-triggered floods in Indonesia inundated 146 villages in Karawang, West Java, authorities said Monday. No deaths or injuries were reported. Thousands of houses and thousands of acres of paddy fields were flooded, the Indonesian news agency Antara reported. Some houses were flooded with up to 6.5 feet of water, officials said. Rochuyun A. Santosa, head of the Karawang Social Affairs and Disaster Mitigation Office, said the total cost of damages had been estimated at $190,900. "The losses were based on the damages inflicted to the buildings and farm areas," Rochuyun said. The floods cut off roads, causing severe congestion and traffic jams, Antara said. "I have been stranded in this bus for the past two days and two nights due to the congestion in Pantura," said Sunaryo, a bus passenger traveling from Purworejo to Depok.
