Two moderate earthquakes today his the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra in western India. An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale jolted the region of Ran of Kutch in Gujarat state on Saturday morning, according to the Indian channel NDTV. Two hours later another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale jolted areas in the state of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune and Satara. The epicenter of the earthquake that hit Gujarat was located in Vamka Taluka in the region of Kutch, which lies above an active ground fault. Sources said the Indian Meteorological Authority said the tremors were also felt by residents and Sangli, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur in Maharashtra. There were no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the two earthquakes which followed a devastating earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale that struck off Indonesia\'s Sumatra island on Wednesday.
