
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook Canakkale province in western Turkey on Tuesday, the country\'s Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute at Bogazici University said. The institute said the quake, which struck near the Aegean Sea at 08:33 local time (0533 GMT), was strongly felt in Istanbul and Kocaeli province. No casualties were reported so far. In October 2011, a 7.2-magnitude quake flattened some 2,000 buildings, killing 644 people and leaving thousands homeless in Turkey\'s eastern province of Van.
