A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 rattled Hiroshima Prefecture and its vicinity in southwestern Japan Monday evening, said Japan Meteorological Agency. The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 7:16 p.m. local time, was in the northern part of Hiroshima at a depth of about 12 kilometers, the agency said, revising the depth of 10 kilometers in its previous report. There is no danger of tsunami due to the quake, it added. Chugoku Electric Power Co. said it has found no abnormalities at its nuclear power plant in Shimane Prefecture, just north of Hiroshima.
