
Thirty-three wildfires burning over an area of 3,500 hectares have been extinguished in the Republic of Buryatia, the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories and the Irkutsk and Tomsk regions over the past 24 hours, the Siberian Federal District’s forestry department told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. “Dry thunderstorms remain the main cause of fire outbreaks,” the department’s official said adding that 27 fires continued raging on an area of 798 hectares. Eleven fires had been put out. There was no threat to populated settlements.
