A major earthquake hit northern Guatemala Sunday morning near the Mexican border, with the highest of various estimates placing it at 6.0 magnitude. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage in the region. The quake\'s epicenter was 16 miles southwest of Ocos, and began about 21 miles underground, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The USGS placed a 6.0 magnitude on the earthquake, although Mexico\'s National Seismological Service said it was 5.7 and Guatemalan officials ranked it as 5.0, CNN said. For each 1/10th of magnitude, earthquakes double in scale and effect.
