
An earthquake measuring 5.3 points on the open-ended Richter scale was registered at 03:02 hours Moscow Standard Time in the central part of the Kemerovo region in southern Siberia. Underground shocks were felt in several cities of the Kuznetsk Coalfields located on the territory of the region. They did not bring about any noticeable aftermaths. According to the Siberian Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said the magnitude of the earthquake reached 5.6 points. Its epicenter lay 3 km away from the township of Starobochany and the seismic focus lay at a depth of 9.8 km below the surface. Tremors of the crust were felt in the regional capital Kemerovo, too.
