Bangkok - Arabstoday
According to provincial authorities, the flood situation in Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Prachinburi provinces is gradually improving, following the related agencies’ measures to reduce the vo;ume of water flowing southwards. Director of Phitsanulok irrigation office Bundit Inta said that the level of floodwater in Sukhothai downtown is decreasing as water is being diverted through Phitsanulok’s Bang Rakam district. The irrigation office is diverting the overflow from the Yom River basin to the Nan River in a bid to prevent flooding in downstream provinces. Mr Bundit said that by the end of October, the water is expected to be completely drained out of the affected areas. Meanwhile in Prachinburi province, Prachinburi Governor Chitra Promchutima revealed that floodwater levels in Kabinburi district continued to drop. The flood-hit areas are expected to dry up within the next four days. Low-lying areas of the province have been inundated last week after the Prachinburi River burst the banks. So far, around 40,000 rai of agricultural land has been damaged and 17 schools have been ordered closed due to the deluge. The Governor added that the province has set up a temporary shelter to assist flood victims. From centerweb
