Forest fire in Tibet under control

A fire that has been ravaging a Tibetan forest in southwest China since Tuesday has been brought under control, local authorities said on Wednesday. Over 1,500 people, including firefighters, local officials and residents, have been mobilized to extinguish the blaze which broke out at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Zayu county of Nyingchi prefecture, said Tashi Dondrup, deputy Party chief of the county. The fire, which has already burned its way through 0.7 hectares of forest, has been brought under control as of Wednesday afternoon, said Tashi. However, efforts to put out the fire could be hindered by windy, foggy conditions which began on Wednesday afternoon. Located in southwestern Tibet, Zayu county borders India and Burma.
