Hurricane Bud was strengthening Thursday off the southwest coast of Mexico and expected to approach land by late Friday, the National Hurricane Center said. The Category 1 hurricane, carrying with winds of 90 mph, was located about 315 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and was tracking north at 7 mph at 5 a.m. PDT. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch have been issued from Punto San Telmo west to Cabo Corrientes. Tropical storm force winds were expected along the coast by Friday afternoon. Bud is expected to produce 4- to 6 inches of rain, with as much as 10 inches possible in isolated areas.
