Machine oil from a hydropower station leaked into a local river in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Tuesday. An error with the machine units of the Hemianshi Hydropower Station caused engine oil to flow into the Hejiang River in Hezhou City during mid-day. Local authorities are taking urgent measures to curb pollution, and the impact of the contamination is being evaluated. The Hejiang River winds across Guangxi before emptying into the Xijiang River in Guangdong. Xijiang is a major waterway in Guangdong.
