A magnitude-6.9 earthquake hit the Andreanof Islands in Alaska late Wednesday, dpa quoted the US Geological Survey as saying. The quake struck at 23:39 GMT in the islands in the Pacific Ocean. The tremor took place at a depth of 40 kilometres some 112 kilometres from Adak, the main settlement in the Andreanof Islands, which are part of the Aleutian Islands. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected and there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
