Malaysia is still safe from threats like a cyclone or typhoon, despite some countries in Asia having been hit by such disasters lately, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ibrahim Komoo said. The founder of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Institute (SEADPRI-UKM), however, said that Malaysia could not avoid from being hit by disasters like thunderstorm, flash floods and landslides. Quoted by Bernama news agency, he said that although Malaysia was not exposed to cyclones or typhoons, the Meteorological Department should inform the public about such disasters as a precaution.
