
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit the waters off East Aceh District, Aceh Province, on Wednesday morning but it caused no tsunami, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The epicenter of the quake which struck at 06.41 a.m. was located 101 km northeast of East Aceh at a depth of 10 km, the head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung, Yuharman, said quoting a BMKG report. Aceh was last hit by a magnitude 6.2 quake early this month, leaving scores of people dead. The quake hit the hardest the districts of Central Aceh where 33 people were dead and Bener Meriah with nine people killed, ANTARA reported.
