A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 shook northern Argentina on Saturday, US researchers reported. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at 4:52 am (0752 GMT), was located sparsely-populated region 129 kilometers (80 miles) east from the Bolivian city of Tarija and 314 kilometers west from the Paraguayan town of Mariscal Estigarribia, according to the US Geological Survey. The depth of the epicenter was 529 kilometers. The reading was based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.
