
A powerful typhoon is approaching southwestern Japan. The government is calling on municipalities to take measures to prepare, Japan's (NHK World) reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the large and very strong typhoon Neoguri has winds up to 180 kilometers per hour.
The agency said the typhoon will become stronger as it moves north and may come close to Okinawa Prefecture on Tuesday.
The agency said it may issue special warnings for the prefecture.
At a government meeting on Monday on the typhoon response, Disaster Management Minister Keiji Furuya called on municipalities to issue evacuation advisories early.
Meanwhile, a rain front is bringing torrential rain to the southwestern main island of Kyushu. Some areas have had rainfall of more than 350 millimeters.
The Meteorological Agency is advising caution for mudslides, swelled rivers and floods.
