Qatar will participate along with Arab countries in commemorating the Arab Environment Day, which falls tomorrow, Sunday , Oct. 14 of every year, the anniversary of the first Arab ministerial conference on Arab environmental issues in 1986 in Tunisia. The Arab countries traditionally celebrated the occasion under a different theme every year, focussing on an important environmental issue that concerns Arab countries and citizens. The Ministry of Environment stressed in a statement on this occasion that Qatar’s participation in such events comes within the frame of the keenness of the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on protecting the environment and maintaining its natural resources. The ministry stressed that the environment is a key element in the national strategy and one of the four pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, adding that it adopts several projects and programs that aim at the protection of the environment, the conservation of natural resources, fighting all kinds of pollution sources, and protecting the health and safety of the community, in order to preserve a renewed environmental yield for present and future generations. The ministry added that it assumed the responsibility of environmental awareness as a cornerstone of preserving the environment, noting that this year’s celebration is special as Qatar hosts the Climate Change Conference (COP18) at the end of the year, which is one of the important issues that concerns environmentalists on a global level.
