Seismologists in California say an earthquake in the northern part of the state was only a magnitude 3.2 temblor but was near the surface. The depth of the earthquake at 8:29 p.m. PDT Monday was just 0.6 miles, they said. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the epicenter at 3 miles from East Quincy, 31 miles from Susanville and 81 miles from Carson City, Nev., the Los Angeles Times reported. It was the third earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater in the area in the last 10 days, the USGS said. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
