Shallow quake hits eastern Indonesia

An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude struck off Papua in the eastern part of Indonesia on Wednesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. The quake jolted at 18 : 20 p.m. Jakarta time (1120 GMT) with epicenter at 57 km northeast Sarmi of Papua and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone. Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called \"the Pacific Ring of Fire\".
