Torrential rain brings flash flood to southeast Myanmar

Torrential rain over the past several days has caused flash flood in many parts of Myanmar\'s southeastern Kayin State, official report said Thursday. Myawaddy, a town situated on Myanmar-Thai border, was heavily flooded and Myawaddy-Hpa-an border trade routes were inundated with landslide taking place on the roads. Other towns in the state such as Kawkareik and Kyondoe also suffered from the flooding. Schools and houses were damaged and flooded. However, no casualties were so far reported. Relief camps have been opened in Hpa-an, capital of Kayin. According to statistics, the number of flood victims has come to about 25,000. More report said Mawlamyine-Bilin-Myaingale road has been inundated, keeping Yangon-Hpa-an-Kawkareik buses in the wait for decline of water level. Ye township was later reported to have also been under water.
