Manila - Spa
A powerful typhoon killed at least 22 people and damaged millions of dollars' worth of infrastructure and crops after battering the Philippines over the weekend, the government said Tuesday. Twelve more people remained missing and feared dead in the aftermath of Typhoon Nanmadol, which exited the Philippines late Monday in the general direction of southern China, according to the Office of Civil Defence (OCD). Benito Ramos, chief of the OCD, said most of the fatalities either drowned or were buried in landslides. Ramos said more than 300,000 people in 16 northern and eastern provinces were displaced by Nanmadol, and the estimated damage to agriculture and infrastructure was 1.10 billion pesos (26.19 million dollars), according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA."
