Typhoon Soulik is expected to make a landfall in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces on the Chinese mainland between Saturday noon and late afternoon after it passes Taiwan, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast on Friday. Soulik was found to be 330 km away from Taipei at 5 p.m. on Friday, the NMC said, adding that the maximum speed at its center reached 48 m per second. The NMC forecast that Soulik will move northwest at a speed of around 25 km per hour, its strength staying the same or slightly picking up. It will land on or pass Taiwan between Friday night and Saturday morning before it arrives at coastal areas between Fuqing City of Fujian and Pingyang County of Zhejiang. Influenced by Soulik, waters near Taiwain will experience strong winds between 8 p.m. on Friday and 8 p.m. on Saturday. During the same period, coastal areas of Fujian and Zhejiang and south of the East China Sea will be pummeled by strong winds.
