The crackdown on illegal or modified motorbikes is part of an on-going campaign, called “Abide ”, to strictly enforce traffic rules.

The campaign started on Thursday and will continue for an unspecified period, said police.

The operation is carried out according to instructions given by Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, to enhance road traffic safety.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of the Central Operations Department , said the traffic campaign is one of a series meant to  curb traffic violations and deal with those who flout the rules on the spot.

The campaign will cover all the roads and highways of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, he said.

Colonel Ali Saeed Elkum, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said police aim to stop bikers from illegally modifying their engines in workshops because that is one of the main causes of traffic-related deaths.

An inspection committee, which monitors traffic offences, and also were able to pinpoint areas where street races are carried out.
