Russia has "fulfilled its obligations" outlined in a gas deal reached with Ukraine by signing a decree setting a lower price for the commodity, energy giant Gazprom said on Saturday.
"The Russian government has just signed a decree on lower prices for exports (gas) to the Ukraine," Sergey Kupriyanov, the spokesman for Gazprom, told Russian news agencies.
"So Russia has fulfilled the obligations under the agreement" done Thursday between Moscow, Kiev and Brussels, said Kupriyanov.
He added that Gazprom was "ready to resume gas deliveries to Ukraine when Naftogaz (Ukrainian state-owned gas company) has fulfilled its obligations".
According to Russian news agencies, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday signed a decree setting the price for a thousand cubic metres of gas at $378.22 until March 31, 2015.
Following two days of negotiations an agreement reached on October 30 between Russia and Ukraine committed Kiev to paying the first tranche of its debt ($1.45 billion) before any gas deliveries are resumed and the full amount of $3.1 billion by the end of the year in order to receive gas in 2015.
