Tokyo stocks ended mixed Wednesday after choppy trading as buying following gains on Wall Street overnight was offset by selling on exporters' corporate profit outlooks amid the strengthening of the yen.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 13.82 points, or 0.08%, from Tuesday at 16,579.01. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.60 points, or 0.04 percent, lower at 1,334.30, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.
Major gainers included machinery as well as information and communication issues, while financial, and oil and coal product issues led decliners.
