Tokyo stocks rise in morning as Japan GDP shrinks less than expected

Tokyo stocks rose 0.35 percent on Monday morning as investor sentiment was boosted by the release of Japan's gross domestic product, which contracted in the second quarter but at a slower pace than expected.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 70.81 points, from Friday to end the morning at 20,590.26. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 6.27 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,670.73.
Gainers were led by insurance, rubber products and other products.
