2 Indian politicians imprisoned for US dollar multi million graft

A court on Thursday sentenced two former Chief Ministers of India\'s eastern state of Bihar to Jail for embezzling millions of US dollars with fake bills in a fodder scam which rocked the country in 1990\'s. The court sent the Member of Parliament and ex-chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, to five years jail. The judge also ordered Yadav to deposit USD 40,000 as fine. Earlier this week, Yadav was convicted by the court for misappropriating millions of dollars worth funds which were meant to buy cattle fodder while he was Chief Minister of Bihar state in the mid-1990s. The court sentenced another former chief minister of Bihar Jagannath Mishra, to four years in jail for his involvement in the scam. After the verdict, Yadav would become the country\'s first politicians to face political disqualification from Indian parliament. Indian Supreme Court has recently issued a new ruling which bars the convicts from holding public office. Apart from the two high-profile politicians, the court has convicted 44 bureaucrats and politicians who too were indicted in the fodder scam and found accomplices in misappropriation of more than USD 150 million of state funds meant for buying cattle food belonging to poor farmers.
