Over 5.425mln tons of commodities have been transited through Iran to various world destinations during the first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2013), marking a 10-percent growth compared to the corresponding period last year, a senior official announced on Sunday. Shahriyar Afandizadeh, the Head of Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, said that some 95 percent of the goods were transited via roads and the rest via railroads. He further lauded the measures taken for improvement of transportation infrastructures and reinforcement of transit corridors, the Islamic republic news agency reported. The oil commodities accounted for 2.56mln tons of the total volume of transited commodities, he said, adding that construction materials and home appliances were among the transited non-oil goods.
