There are 71,915 Bangladeshis among 371,183 foreign workers in Bahrain, according to the latest statistics of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). This was revealed during a meeting between LMRA CEO Osama Abdullah Al Absi and official delegation from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Labour comprising: Managing director of the Bangladeshi government-owned Organisation for Expats Employment Abroad Services, assistant undersecretary Mohammed Abdullah and the general-director of Bangladesh’s Labour, Workforce and Training Bureau, Mrs Mufreha Sultan. Al Absi discussed with the visiting Bengali delegation the situation of Bangladeshi workers in Bahrain and scopes for bilateral cooperation between LMRA and the Bangladeshi Ministry of Labour regarding workers permits and orientation of workers about labour regulations, legal status, rights and obligations. The delegation was informed about LMRA procedures as it went on a field tour to get familiar with Expat Labour System procedures applicable in LMRA which ensures the control of all stages and requirements for issuance of all expatriate work permits.
