Canadian payroll workers saw a small monthly increase in pay in August, up to $907.19 on average, Statistics Canada reported Thursday. That represented a 0.4 percent increase from July and a 3.6 percent increase on an annual basis, the report said. Three sectors experienced significantly higher earnings gains than the national average on an annual basis. Weekly earnings in professional, scientific and technical services rose 7.4 percent to $1,273.60, accommodation and food services increased 5 percent to $374.54 and construction weekly earnings rose 4.4 percent to $1,144.43, the agency said. \"Average weekly earnings in administrative and support services declined 3.2 percent to $724.03,\" StatsCan said. Earnings increased in all 10 provinces in August, with the highest annual percentage increase in Newfoundland and Labrador, which was up 8.1 percent to $942.31, the report said.
