Beijing municipal authorities have launched a citywide campaign against lavish spending of public funds. The campaign is line with the Communist Party of China's frugality drive aimed at clamping down on wasting public funds. All organs of the Beijing municipal government have been told to self-check and publicize any violations of rules regarding use of public funds for various purposes, including official travel, receptions, meetings and official vehicles, as well as use of funds for agricultural purpose. Later, a joint inspection team comprising of treasury and audit officials will be sent to certain government departments, according to the campaign's guideline. "Officials who are responsible for serious problems will be reported to the Party's disciplinary committee or judicial organs," the guideline said.
