China intercepts 147 shipments of substandard food in September

Chinese authorities discovered 147 batches of substandard food imports in September, the country's top quality supervisor announced Thursday. Wrong labels, microbial contamination and poor quality were the main problems discovered in the substandard food imports, which came from 24 countries and regions, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ). The rejected food products fall under 14 categories, with most of them classified as dairy products, biscuits and candies, said AQSIQ's spokesperson, Chen Xitong. AQSIQ also found five shipments of substandard cosmetic products imported from three countries and regions. All substandard products were either sent back or destroyed, Chen said.
