China is formulating a reform program for the country's reeducation through labor system, an official said Tuesday. The necessity of the reform has been recognized and authorities have done plenty of research and heard advice from experts and legislators, and they are now working on a plan for the reform, said Jiang Wei, a senior official with the team in charge of China's judicial system reform. Jiang made the remarks in response to a question at a press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council. He admitted that some loopholes currently exist in the system's procedures. However, he stressed that the reeducation through labor system has its legal basis in the country's legal system, which is approved by the legislature, and has played an important role in maintaining social order in the country.
