The Communist Party of China (CPC) anti-graft authority at central level dealt with or supervised the processing of 25 cases involving demolition and land appropriation in 2011, it was announced on Tuesday. According to data released by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the Ministry of Supervision, the crackdown saw disciplinary punishments handed to 45 people, and 83 people handed over to judicial authorities for their inappropriate behavior in land cases. Also in 2011, the CCDI and the Ministry of Supervision joined the Ministry of Land and Resources in a campaign against irregularities concerning land use, in which disciplinary penalties were meted out to 3,733 people and 2,393 were transferred to judicial authorities. In China, along with rapid urbanization, forced demolition has become a practice that has triggered much protest and discontent among the public.
