Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer, has bought 60,000 tonnes of US soft red winter wheat for April 21-30 shipment on a free on board basis, the main government wheat buyer said. Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), gave the following breakdown of the purchases: 60,000 tonnes of US soft red winter wheat from Venus at $259 per tonne with freight costs of $27.75 per tonne Since the start of the 2011/12 fiscal year on July 1, GASC’s purchases have been dominated by Black Sea origin wheat.
