Turkish Science, Industry & Technology Minister Nihat Ergun opened Turkish stand within the scope of National Small Business Week in Washington on Monday. Ergun, who also spoke at a conference, said that commerce between Turkey and the United States would be strengthened when relations between Turkish and U.S. small & medium scale enterprises developed. Turkey is the guest of honor of the National Small Business Week which convenes representatives of several sectors as well as small & medium scale enterprises in the country. Ergun said that trade volume between Turkey and the U.S. reached 20 billion USD in 2011, adding that this figure was not enough for such two countries as members of G-20. Noting that commercial and economic relations between Turkey and the U.S. would develop through efforts of entrepreneurs, Ergun said that Turkey attached importance in developing a comprehensive cooperation between small & medium scale enterprises which were the fundamental actors of economy. Ergun said that 99.8 percent of Turkish enterprises were of small and medium scale. He added that Turkey was the 6th biggest economy of Europe, and 17th biggest economy of the world.
