Appearing for less than five times in the annual Gulfood exhibition, the East African countries of Kenya and Ethiopia are airing stories of success: increased tonnage of export. “We have got our products listed in the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) supermarkets such as the Union Co-op.,” said the Export Manager of Kenya Tea Packers Limited, David Chepkwony. “We have participated for the third time, but we have every reason to keep coming because our stand as you see is kept busy by serious people who want to partner with us,” he said. Kenya is exhibiting dairy products, coffee, tea and flower. A representative of Kenya Meat Commission, Stella Muhoro told The Gulf Today; “The Gulf countries are consuming a lot of our products, but the problem is we are relying on agents. Now we want to formalise our networks here.” Stella said it is important for the investors here to come in Kenya “and engage in production so as to maintain the consistency.” “Our export to the Gulf is encouraging, but unfortunately, we have not been able to maximise the opportunities we have such as our geographical proximity and proper marketing of our organic products,” said the Team Leader from the Ministry of Trade, Tsega Teka.
