EU gives Lebanon €30m for Syrian refugees

The EU said on Tuesday it was giving 30 million Euros in aid to Lebanon to help this Arab country handle the growing influx of Syrian refugees fleeing violence in their war-torn country, European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule said here Tuesday.  Fule made the announcement at a news conference as he was concluding a two-day visit to Lebanon, saying the EU was ready to boost its aid to Lebanon in order to enable it to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.  \"The European Union remains committed to assisting the Lebanese Government in its response to the refugee crisis.\" By the new additional grant, the EU has now provided a total of 75 million Euros in humanitarian and non-humanitarian aid.  Over 325,000 Syrian refugees are believed to have fled to Lebanon, according to a recent weekly report by the UNRWA.
