
Industrial production in the eurozone and European Union (EU) grew by 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent respectively in April compared with the previous month, said the EU\'s statistics authorities Wednesday. The figures represent a downward trend of industry in the eurozone and EU where industrial production rose by 0.9 percent in March month on month, according to Eurostat. On an annual basis, the industrial production in April fell by 0.6 percent in the single currency area and decreased by 0.8 percent in the EU, said Eurostat. In April, production of capital goods grew by 2.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the EU on a monthly basis, while production of energy in both zones decreased by 1.5 percent, said Eurostat. Among the EU member states for which data are available, industrial production rose in ten and fell in eleven. The highest increases were registered in Ireland at 3 percent, and France at 2.3 percent, and the largest decreases were witnessed in Finland at 5.1 percent and the Netherlands at 4.3 percent.
