A number of companies have issued recalls for products made with peanut butter from a New Mexico-based food company linked to an outbreak of salmonella. Sunland, Inc. on Sept. 24 issued a recall of its peanut butter and other nut butter products because the products have been linked to a salmonella outbreak that has made at least 29 people ill, the Food and Drug Administration said in a release. Salmonella causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk. On Friday, Sunland extended its recall to to include raw and roasted shelled and in-shell peanuts processed in its Peanut Processing Plant. Several other companies that used Sunland peanut butter in their products also issued recalls. S & P Company Ltd on Friday recalled 150 cases and 1,800 jars of Su-nun Crush Roasted Thai Red Pepper. Creative Energy Foods, Inc. on Friday recalled its Crunch® thinkThin nutrition bars, which may contain blanched roasted peanuts supplied by Sunland, as well as its Ridgebar brand nutrition bars which contain blanched roasted peanuts from Sunland. And on Thursday, PureFit Inc. voluntarily recalled PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch nutrition bars, which were made with peanut butter from Sunland.
