Greece\'s President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias, also wants to contribute to his country\'s austerity programme, Finance undersecretary Christos Staikouras told Parliament today, announcing that the head of state has demanded a cut by one third of the pensions of his two predecessors Costis Stefanopoulos and Christos Sarzetakis and of the salary of future presidents. Last February Papoulias had renounced to his salary. According to the local press, the president\'s decision will make Greece save some 350,000 euros a year.
