Hong Kong Customs seizes 1.4 kg of cannabis buds

Hong Kong Customs on Thursday announced that 1.4 kilograms of cannabis buds with a market value of about 260,000 HK dollars (about 33,505 U.S. dollars) were seized in Mong Kok on June 26. Amid an anti-narcotics operation in Mong Kok on Wednesday, Customs officers intercepted a suspicious man. After searching his reusable shopping bag, officers found the cannabis buds hidden in five sealed aluminum cans. It is believed that the means of concealment was a way to evade detection by law enforcement officers. The arrested man, aged 38, claimed to be unemployed. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Kowloon City Magistrates\' Court June 28. Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offense. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollars = 7.76 HK dollars)
