Tehran and Ankara will explore avenues for further increase in their trade exchanges and reinvigoration of bilateral economic relations during President Hassan Rouhani's upcoming visit to Turkey, Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Alireza Bigdeli said.
Bigdeli referred to the upcoming visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Turkey, and said during the visit issues of mutual interest, mainly in the economic sphere, will be discussed by the two sides' officials.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici on Thursday.
Yazici, for his part, said that the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Turkey is on the rise and the figure is expected to hit $20 billion this year.
Regular exchange of visits between the two sidesˈ high ranking officials have left positive impacts on bilateral economic ties and officials of both countries are determined to increase the figure to $ 30 billion within coming years, the Turkish minster added.
In relevant remarks earlier this month, a senior Turkish trade official announced that his country has considerably increased its imports from Iran in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2014).
"Turkey imported $10 billion from Iran in the last year," Chairman of Turkish Exporters Assembly Murat Akyuz told reporters.
He noted that the value of Turkey's annual imports from Iran amounted to about $9.1 billion over the past 10 years.
Akyuz explained that Iran ranks seventh in terms of export of goods to Turkey, and said, "Jewelry, precious stones and the like amounted for $6.1 billion of Iran's exported goods to Turkey."
Iran and Turkey increased their trade transactions in the first two months of 2014 as compared with the figures of the corresponding period in the last year.
The value of trade transactions between Tehran and Ankara hit $2.115bln in January and February, the trade data recently released by the Turkish government said.
Iran and Turkey have in recent years increased their cooperation in all the various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture.
