Italy to lose over 7,000 hospital beds amid budget cuts

Italian hospitals will need to eliminate a total of 7,389 beds for patients under the government\'s controversial spending review, the health ministry said Thursday. In a memo, the ministry also said that regions with fewer than 3.7 hospital beds per 1,000 inhabitants will be obliged to meet the threshold. The spending review, which was passed this summer, is a decree aimed at slashing 26 billion euros from the budget in order to help get the debt-ridden country\'s finances in order.
