Jan-Aug trade deficit declines to 2.93 bln euros

Cyprus\' external trade deficit for the period of January-August declined by 392 million euros reaching 2.93 billion, from 3.32 billion in the corresponding period of 2011, as Famagusta Gazette reports. According to preliminary estimates of the Cyprus Statistical Service, total imports in the first eight months of 2012 dropped by 378 million euros reaching 3.89 billion, whereas total exports rose by 14.3 million euros reaching 961.5 million. According to the preliminary figures, in August the deficit in the trade balance declined by 97 million euros reaching 359.4 million. Total imports in August 2012 amounted to 456.2 million euros from 562.9 million, of which 318.0 million euros were imports from EU member-states and 147.2 million from non EU states. Total exports in August reached 105.7 million from 106.1 million, of which 62.5 million were dispatched to EU member-states and 43.2 million to third-states (non EU member-states).
